How to collect vintage cigars seriously (!)–Part 4

Welcome to the final part of our 4-part story. This one is about rare new world (Unicorns) cigars. For me now is the most exiting and interesting chapter, but the hardest too. Not because of the availability but because of the knowledge you must have.

My total guide is IV chapters, all related to different type of rare, fine cigars: Vintage Cubans, non-Cubans, very old Europeans and rare new non-Cuban cigars. This part is about very old European short fillers.

Chapter IV – Rare new world (Unicorns) cigars

You have to follow all producers (big, small, boutique) to be sure you know all recent or limited releases. There are cigars called ‘’UNICORNS’’ just because it’s almost impossible to find. Some examples just for reference:

  • Tatuaje Monster the Frank – first release from the line (2008) last time I have seen box for sale been over $4000, empty boxes been sold for more than $800-1000

  • Roma Craft Cromagnon Narwhal – never seen one for less than $80-100

  • Tatuaje La Verite 2007 onwards - first years of that line are not easy to be found for less than $70-80

  • Drew Estate Liga Privada ‘’A’’ – event only cigar, but people selling them for around $60-80

And many more… the list is endless.

But how to find those cigars…

Start following shops and shop owners in Instagram, Facebook and subscribe in all their newsletters. When you become part of the community or fanbase of the brands you are after, there are always chats and discussions which in many cases help you to find rare cigars.

Contacts are the best way.

There are few online shops which have incredible selection of interesting cigars:

Ezra Zion Store ,  Nomad cigars, Cigar federation, Skallywag cigars, Small batch cigar, Privada cigar club, Sir Louis Cigars (Instagram) and many others.

I am hoping all those advice help to at least start building an interesting selection. All have been tested by me and they have been sources for 90% of my collection.

I mentioned it a few times, THERE IS NO GUARANTEED QUALITY AND CONDITION in many of the options out there, everything is on your own risk…. But hey no risk, no win. 😊

Keep your cigars lit, and not as pieces of art in a gallery.

Light ‘em up and enjoy!
